  • LuLuPalooza 2018

    Date: 05/26/2018
Time: 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM
    Lucy Buffett's LuLu's, 200 E. 25th Ave. Gulf Shores, AL 36542
Join us for our Summer Kick Off Party! We will have bands in our dining room and on our big Crazy Sista Boat Stage all day. Fun for all ages! Noon: Lefty Collins 2 p.m. Phil & Foster w/ Special Guest Richard Douglas Jensen 4 p.m. Jillian Holt & The Soul Progressive 6 p.m. Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival 8:15 p.m. Seth Walker Lefty Collins Singer and guitarist, Lefty Collins, has been playing the guitar for over 40 years. Born and raised in Chicago, he played over 500 shows at the legendary House of Blues and opened for or shared the stage with Jimmy Buffett, Chris Isaack, B.B. King, Peter Frampton and many others. Lefty moved to Gadsden, Alabama in 2008 and formed a band that went to the finals of the 2012 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. In 2013, his focus changed and he began playing more acoustic guitar. Lefty relocated to the Gulf Coast in late 2014 and is happily enjoying life in the breeze. His music is a mix of originals and covers based on blues and classic rock, incorporating elements of all forms of American music. Phil & Foster with Special Guest Richard Douglas Jensen Phil & Foster is an acoustic and electric duo specializing in high energy roots music. They draw heavily on rural American musical styles including bluegrass, country, folk, and blues. Phil Proctor (guitar, mandolin, vocals) has played with the Dog River Boys, Phil & Walon, the Deluxe Trio and is currently in the Marlow Boys. Stan Foster (vocals, bass) has spent over twenty years as a bassist and front man for bluegrass renegades, Rollin' in the Hay. Stan was also in Custer & Foster, the Deluxe Trio and also plays with the Marlow Boys. Playing together since 2012, Phil & Foster have forged a musical partnership that finds strength in their instrumental dexterity, beauty in their vocal harmonies and excitement in their energetic stage show. Their setlist includes original compositions, as well as, classics from Bill Monroe, Stanley Brothers, Hank Williams, Flying Burrito Brothers, and many others. Their long residency at Callaghan's Irish Social Club in Mobile (recently named Best Bar in the south by Southern Living Magazine) attests to their professionalism and longevity. Phil & Foster always deliver! The enigmatic Richard Douglas Jensen grew up on the music of Nashville's Grand Ole Opry, New Orleans blue and bayou rock and Tex-Mex corridas. His new album, "Never Say Never," is a homage of sorts to the songs of Johnny Cash, Tony Joe White, Little Dickens, and many other artist of long ago. He has performed with James Brown, John Mellencamp, and country icons such as Barbara Mandrell, Freddie Hart, and Mickey Gilley and guest-starred on TV's "The Dukes of Hazzard." He recently co-produced "Sad Hill Unearthed," a new documentary starring Clint Eastwood. He is pleased to bring his music to the stage of LuLu's for the very first time. Jillian Holt & The Soul Progressive Singers who leave their mark on a generation of fans are often described by their raw vocal abilities, with one cliché description referring to their set of pipes. By that standard, Jillian Holt's pipes resonate, not only in your ear but also in your soul. Heavily fortified with strong, decades-old, rusty American steel with combustion that'll knock you on your butt. And her debut album, in part, pays homage to the pioneering women and musicians of color who birthed the sound of Detroit's Motown and Memphis' Stax records. Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in South Alabama, Jillian Holt has been singing since childhood. She honed her craft in the coast city of Pensacola, Florida playing and singing nightly to overwhelming crowds at a renowned dueling piano house. Hired in her early twenties for her larger than life female persona and an even larger voice, Holt has a no frills approach to singing. Influenced by such greats as Robert Plant, Joe Cocker, KoKo Taylor, and Janis Joplin, Jillian Holt has a deep love for flawed, yet utterly genuine vocals. And she, too, is all real all the time. But don't get your feelings hurt; she just means what she sings. Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival Straight out of a log cabin in South Alabama, Jimmy Lumpkin belts out sublime sounds that are altogether his own. Jimmy is a singer/songwriter and guitarist with an intoxicating voice and a stirring, soulful bend of Rock & Roll, Folk, Blues and the flare of a long-remembered era of old Country music. With the voice of a 100-year-old angel from the delta, the soul found in Jimmy's music is like no other. Skate Mountain Records presents to the world, music from a point of view you have never heard before. In the likes of Bob Dylan, Ray LaMontagne, Ryan Adams, Van Morrison, John Lee Hooker, The Black Keys, and Otis Redding, Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival have set the bar high with their August 2017 release of their new album, "Home" - a unique blend of soulful roots rock and Americana. Seth Walker Over the past 10 years, Seth Walker has become recognized as one of the most revered modern roots artists in the United States; a three dimensional talent comprised by a gift for combining melody and lyric alongside a rich, Gospel-drenched, Southern-inflected voice with a true blue knack for getting around on the guitar. His latest studio album, "Gotta Get Back," produced by Jano Rix of The Wood Brothers, is yet another masterwork that further expands upon his reputation. Growing up on a commune in rural North Carolina, the son of classically trained musicians, Seth Walker played cello long before discovering the six-string in his 20s. When his introduction to the blues came via his Uncle Landon Walker, who was both a musician and a disc jockey, his fate was forever sealed. Instantaneously, Seth was looking to artists like T-Bone Walker, Snooks Eaglin, and B.B. King as a wellspring of endless inspiration. The rest is history. He's released seven albums between 1997 and 2015; breaking into the Top 20 of the Americana charts and receiving praise from NPR, American Songwriter, No Depression and Blue Revue, among others. In addition to extensive recording and songwriting pursuits, Seth is consistently touring and performing at venues and festivals around the world. Along with headline shows, he's been invited to open for The Mavericks, The Wood Brothers, Raul Malo, Paul Thorn, and Ruthie Foster, among others. Seth Walker is currently splitting his time between New Orleans and New York City after previously residing in Austin and Nashville. He's used those experiences wisely, soaking up with absorbing musical lineage of these varied places. With a blues man’s respect for roots and tradition coupled with an appreciation for - and successful melding of - contemporary songwriting, Seth sublimely incorporates a range of styles with warmth and grace. Perhaps Country Standard Time said it best: "If you subscribe to the Big Tent theory of Americana, then Seth Walker - with his blend of blues, gospel, pop, R&B, rock, and a dash of country - just might be your poster boy."
